SEO and Keyword Research: Understanding the Basics

seo keyword researchSearch Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the process of adopting various tactics in order to propel your website or blog to the top positions in search engine listings.

Why SEO?

More than 80% of people who buy products and services online find their choices through search engines. So, to place their websites right in the view of potential customers, online business owners and bloggers take SEO seriously.

Think of SEO as an ongoing competition between all websites and blogs. The better-optimized ones push their way to the top, while the poorly optimized ones remain at low levels – unseen and unknown.

What are keywords?

Keywords are those words and phrases for which you optimize your website in order to get it listed in the results when relevant queries are used.

For instance, an automobile company in Texas, USA, would optimize for keywords such as:

  • cheap cars
  • cheap cars Texas
  • cheap cars in Texas
  • buy cheap cars Texas

Now, if you look at these keywords, they are relevant to the company’s business – automobile sales. And hopefully, whenever an internet user searches Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc, using queries containing the listed keywords, the company’s website will be featured in the search engine results. You get it?

Why are keywords relevant to SEO?

Think of keywords as labels or tags that differentiate your website or blog from others. If you’ve optimized your blog for cakes for instance, it will only show up when searches related to cakes are made. But it won’t show up when unrelated searches are made, such as when someone searches for sports news. You get it?

Having websites and blogs optimized for certain keywords helps search engines present the most relevant results when searches are made. In fact, this is the goal of search engines.

Would my website be ranked for any keywords I choose?

Well, no. Your website won’t be ranked for just any keyword. (By “ranked”, I mean ranked in top positions.) The reason is that some keywords are very competitive, ranking your website for them is practically impossible. So, you should only optimize for keywords that attract moderate to low competition, but are used commonly in search queries.

How can I choose the right keywords?

You can find out how competitive or how frequently searched a keyword or keyphrase is using keyword research tools. The most popular of these is the Google Keyword Tool, which is free to use. There are other keyword research tools available, but these aren’t free. Example include Market Samurai and SeCockpit.

On A Tight Budget?? Build BackLinks With This Sick Submitter

Build Backlinks On A Tight Budget Sick SubmitterPermit me to introduce another great linkbuilding tool to you.  It’s called Sick Submitter. It’s a very cheap one, this time around. So, if you’ve not been able to afford others because their prices fall a bit on the high side, I’ve got a dead cheap one here.

Sick Submitter Review

Sick Submitter is a desktop-based link-building program that is capable of submitting articles, RSS feeds, bookmarks, and various forms of profile links.

Here’s a list of the unique capabilities of Sick Submitter:

  • It can create forum profiles and submit articles to forums
  • It can submit RSS feeds
  • It can create accounts with article directories and submit articles to them
  • It can create accounts and submit articles to bookmarking sites
  • It can go on a blog commenting spree
  • It can solve captcha questions and puzzles
  • It accepts articles in spintax format
  • It enables users to choose websites that bookmark their content

Sick Submitter has a very easy-to-use user interface. In fact, it’s got the easiest and simplest user interface than those of other link building tools.

To bookmark a link, just click the “bookmark” tab and enter the required details (title, description, etc.), select the websites you wish to have as your “bookmarkers”, and hit the “start” button. That’s all. Nothing more.

PS. Though Sick Submitter has an easy-to-use interface, the program uses “packets” and “templates”. The packets and templates are instructions for choosing the specific websites where you want to have your content bookmarked. So, you decide the quality of your backlinks. Using the packets and templates is somewhat difficult to understand. This is the only downside with Sick Submitter. But after taking some time to study it, you’ll scale these “hurdles”.

How much does Sick Submitter cost?

Sick Submitter costs just $20 a month. However, you may need to buy templates for around $20. These templates are preloaded with hundreds of high quality websites on which you can have your content bookmarked.

How does Sick Submitter compare with others?

  • Sick Submitter is the cheapest link-building tool available online. At $20 per month, it costs much less than the likes of Magic Submitter ($67/month), Unique Article Wizard ($67/month), and SenukeX ($147/month)
  • Sick Submitter is not bounced by captchas – unlike most other similar tools. It simply solves them and gains access
  • The user interface is easy to use (though the templates and packets features are a bit complex)

So, if you’re too busy – or lazy – to build links manually, and you’ve got very little cash to spare, I recommend Sick Submitter for you.

However, if you have extra budget and prefer a more user-friendly interface, I highly recommend you get a better backlinking tool like Magic Submitter and UAW.

Proven SEO Tactics That Work

SEOSearch Engine Optimization, or SEO, involves the adoption of various tactics that are aimed at spurring a website or blog to the top positions in search engine rankings – for specific keywords.

SEO is dynamic. While some SEO tactics have lost their effectiveness over the years, some are still very potent. This article discusses the various SEO tactics that are very effective – as of now.

SEO tactics fall under two parts:

  1. On-page optimization: this comprises all tactical adjustments you make to your website’s content and layout, for SEO purposes.
  2. Off-page optimization: this comprises SEO tactics that you implement on other websites, but with the aim of boosting your website’s ranking.

On-page SEO

Although many webmasters lowball on-page SEO techniques, they’re very important. In fact, they’ve been the only techniques that have remained effective ever since the beginning of SEO.

Proven on-page SEO tactics include:

  • Adding your keywords in your pages’ meta tags
  • Adding your keywords within your pages’ meta description
  • Including your keywords within the title of your pages or posts
  • Including your keywords in the body of your content – especially within the first paragraph
  • Adding to your pictures, alt tags that contain your keywords
  • Linking out to authority sites in your niche

The main purpose of on-page SEO is to “brand” the pages of your website or blog with your keywords as much as possible. This will help search engines recognize it easily and present it within their result pages when searches related to your keyword are made.

One mistake you should always avoid is over-optimization – stuffing your keywords unnecessarily within your content and meta tags. Search engines frown at this, and they penalize websites found violating the rule.
